Valentine's Day 2025

Happy Valentine... 'Loving' parrots is a more complex concept than many (prospective) parrot owners realize.

Happy Valentine

'Loving' parrots is a more complex concept than many (prospective) parrot owners realize. Read the book ‘Caring for Parrots’ and learn everything you need to know about preventing health, behavioral and wellness problems.

Parrots are not waiting for our love. Parrots have a right and an interest in being treated with respect. Showing love can be at odds with showing respect.

Without the necessary knowledge/information, birds die on average when they have reached no more than 30% of their life expectancy. Birds rarely die of old age, but as a result of misinformation and ignorance.

For example, a African Grey can be happy if it lives to be 35 years old. The oldest African Grey in my practice was in the same family for 99 years. So what is the life expectancy of a African Grey?

The average canary is lucky if it lives 5 years. The oldest canaries in my practice were 20 years old.
